Living Word started as a few families in the Waukesha area wanting to keep our belief that all of the Bible is God’s Word and to tell people about the forgiveness Jesus has won for them, but to worship in a more modern style. We started meeting in 2003 for Bible study and prayer, and soon held services at Rose Glen Elementary School, which is where we have been now for almost 15 years. Rose Glen has been so great to us over the years, allowing us to grow into a small congregation with 75 families and over 220 committed members. In these years we’ve concentrated on building relationships in the Waukesha community and sharing the good news of salvation through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
God has blessed us tremendously! But we know that he has more blessings to pour out as we reach more people to renew or begin a relationship with Jesus. We purchased 7 acres of land in 2008, and have since paid it off. We are now ready to build our first facility that will be used for worship on weekends, but will be used by the community all week long as well. We plan to build a coffee shop for small groups, a counseling center, a youth group area to serve Waukesha West students primarily and all high school students in general after school, and education rooms for our Faith Quest ministry for children age 3 – grade 8.
I grew up in Waukesha, WI, attending Trinity Lutheran School and Wisconsin Lutheran High School. After graduation, I went to Northwestern College for pastoral studies where I began studying Greek and Hebrew as well as theology and history. After receiving my bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, I attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI. While there, I was also privileged to serve a one-year internship at Divine Word Lutheran Church in Plover, WI. I graduated with honors from seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree and received my first call to Good Shepherd, Kearney, NE, where I served for 5 years. I then accepted a call to my hometown of Waukesha because I was excited to start a new mission congregation at Living Word, and being closer to family was a blessing as well.
While touring with the Seminary Choir, I met my future wife Sara—and definitely married up! We’ve been married (read: she’s put up with me) for 20 years, and the Lord has given us three amazing children: Emery, Nathanael, and Judah. I enjoy history and reading and going to the Boundary Waters for serious camping. I also love to see how Waukesha has changed and grown since I was a kid, meeting new people, and especially sharing the hope we all have in Jesus. I’m excited to see what the Lord will do through our congregation, which is filled with so many people who love their Savior and want others to know him too.
